These are the tools, materials, and supplies that I use in my workshops and with my kids. Kids should ALWAYS be supervised while using tools.

TOOLS

Stubby Claw Hammer

Great for small hands!

Comfortable grip and all the features and quality of a real hammer.

Worried about the claw feature? Check out the Ball Pein version.

STUBBY BALL PEIN HAMMER

Great for small hands!

Comfortable grip, solid design, no claw for added safety. Nails will have to be pulled with another tool.

wire cutter

Not traditionally a woodworking tool, but I use these all the time to remove bent nails. I DO NOT let my kids use these to remove nails. This tool helps me, help them ;)

SANDING SPONGES

Comfortable to hold, easy to use. Includes variety of grits to take your projects from rough to smooth!

Regular sandpaper works too, but I like the chunky design for little hands. Great for developing hand strength, fine-motor, and lear about cause/effect and opposites (rough/smooth).

Ear Protection

Great for kids with sensitive ears or for kids who just want to look the part of a real woodworker!

I've also noticed that sometimes wearing these helps kids focus on the work in front of them and block out distractions.

Great for kids with sensitive ears or for kids who just want to look the part of a real woodworker... who also loves unicorns.

RUBBER MALLET

Delivers "softened strikes" which makes this my choice for building inspired sensory projects.

Smash some play dough with this mallet to give kids the feel of hammering with less risk.

Create a maker SPACE at home

wood table

"Built to last"... is exactly what you need. A solid wood surface is VERY important! A plastic table won't offer enough support for building projects.

WOOD PEG BOARD SYSTEM

I love the easy installation and modern design. Leave as is or paint it to match your workspace! Mix and match components to create the perfect system!

METAL ROLLING CART

This little cart can store all of your workshop and art supplies.

It's mobile, relatively compact, and looks really cute! I love these carts so much that I have three!

SUSTAINABILITY & CRAFTS(WO)MANSHIP

We do things differently.

I've loved working with tools since I was a little girl, and lucky for me, I had a dad who always welcomed me in his workshop. I'll never forget the hours we spent together building my dream dollhouse. My dad taught me many practical skills, but nothing compares to the confidence that comes from building something with your hands and having a parent to teach and encourage you along the way.

Maker Monkey is about so much more than arts and crafts. The toys and activities we share with our kids now will influence the way they interact with the world around them in the future. I started Maker Monkey to give you and your children the opportunity to experience what I experienced with my dad decades ago - using creativity and building as a way to build confidence and connect with each other. Never underestimate the power of simple moments.

You don't have to be an expert woodworker to take on any of these projects. Simple, kid-friendly projects will help develop your child's focus, fine-motor skills, and creativity. I've seen it first-hand with my own kids and I can't wait for you to experience it with yours!

SUSTAINABILITY

We care deeply about the little souls we build with, which means we also need to take care of the world that they are inheriting. We use responsibly sourced upcycled wood in every project. Our goal is to protect and preserve our resources while teaching our kids to do the same.

My Mantra is: "Do good doing what you love." In other words, be yourself and take care of the people and world around you. This takes courage, creativity... and sometimes a hammer.
